The SHIMANO’s new e-bike system, known as SHIMANO EP8, is packed full of new features.

The new born of the Japanese brand is capable of pumping 85 Nm of torque and comes along with a 10% weight reduction (2,6Kg) thanks to a new magnesium drive unit casing, smoother pedaling, cleanly integrated and reduced noise. The increase in power–to–weight is also complimented by an improvement in battery efficiency thanks to the drag reduced by 36%. In other words, a lighter weight and quieter drive unit, a more compact and powerful motor with less pedaling drag and a 20% increase in range.

But, for sure, one of the EP8’s plus is the software refinement that assures the customizability of the three support level (ECO, TRAIL, BOOST) via the E-TUBE PROJECT app.

ECO, TRAIL and BOOST modes can be customized with 10 different levels, the torque can be set anywhere between 20-85 Nm and there are 5 levels of start assistance available that can be set for different rider profiles, for different types of ride.

The switch from the pre-set and saved profiles comes from the SC-EM800 computer display, and its 1,6” colour screen, readable in bright sunshine, with a compact and low-profile body to suit demanding mountain biking conditions.

Together with SHIMANO Italy we made a tutorial to show you how to set the new EP8.
